Instructional Designer Liaisons
A liaison is an Instructional Designer designated as the formal contact person in support of pedagogical consulting, effective usage of instructional technology and quality course design for a particular academic unit (college, school or department). Instructional designers are highly engaged in the development and delivery of traditional, hybrid, online and remote courses and programs.

Before joining SU in March 2016 as an Instructional Designer, I developed my interest in instructional design in an unusual place – the ÃÛÌÒav Airport where I worked as an instructional designer for Piedmont Airlines. I developed self-paced trainings for aircraft maintenance, reported training engagement, and maintained records for FAA accountability. My work there was based on adult learning theory. I have paired that with pedagogical knowledge and upskilled my role supporting learning design for higher education. A BA in graphic design, an MA in instructional technology and online learning design, and an EdD in literacy studies with a focus on multi-modality (earned here at SU!) have equipped me with a unique set of skills to support user experience in quality course design, regardless of the course modality. I champion Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies that support accessibility, inclusion, and active learning. And yes, as you could probably tell from my prose, I am a fan of the Oxford Comma because I don’t want to eat grandma. I am always ready to discuss andragogical theories and practices and to brainstorm new ideas for engaging and supporting learners. My heart sings when faculty tell me that they want to make the student experience as transparent, accessible, and engaging as possible and that they are seeking new ways to continually improve their courses to meet that objective!

English, Language Institute, School of Nursing, School of Health Sciences (Exercise Science, Fitness & Wellness, Health and Human Performance, Health Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Respiratory Therapy)
I joined SU in 2019 as an instructional designer first for the School of Nursing, then for the College of Health and Human Services, and now with Instructional Design & Delivery. I came to SU from UMES where I began teaching in 1999, online teaching in 2003, and moved into instructional design in 2016. I currently teach composition online, both synchronously and asynchronously, at the Community College of Baltimore County. Although I’ve only been employed by SU as a designer for six years, my relationship with the university is much longer than that. I earned two degrees here, taught many courses in the English Department and the English Language Institute, and worked for many years on the Literature & Film Quarterly journal. I serve as one of our Quality Matters (QM) Coordinators (as well as a QM Master Reviewer) which gives me opportunities to focus on the best practices in course design. In addition to that, I am deeply committed to making learning experiences joyful.

I joined Instructional Design & Delivery (ID&D) in January 2024 as an Instructional Designer, bringing over 30 years of experience in higher education. My career has followed a non-traditional path, spanning a range of instructional, technological, and leadership roles in both for-profit and non-profit institutions. For the ten years prior to joining ÃÛÌÒav, I worked remotely with two institutions in Jamaica: the University of the West Indies (UWI) and Mico University College. At UWI, I served as the academic lead for a multi-tiered academic program (EdD, MEd, Diploma) in Teaching and Learning with Emerging Technology, which I designed. I also held the role of Senior Online Distance Learning Instructional Specialist, where I remotely trained over 1,100 teachers and faculty during the COVID-19 crisis. I hold a Ph.D. in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University and a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Management. My professional focus has consistently centered on the application of technology in teaching and learning, with a growing interest in how artificial intelligence is reshaping the educational and professional landscape.
Liaises to:
Dance, Environmental Studies, History, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Theatre, SU Libraries
I joined ID&D in 2020 first as an online consultant, and then as an instructional technologist. Now in my fifth year with ID&D, I am an Instructional Designer and serve as a Quality Matters Master Reviewer. I am ACUE certified for effective teaching practices and fostering a culture of belonging, and I am certified in Google AI Essentials. My 18 years of experience as a college history instructor utilizing cutting-edge educational innovation was my pathway toward instructional design. I have presented across Maryland on course design to assist neurodivergent students, techniques for engaging pedagogy, the ethical use of AI in the classroom, dynamic lecturing, and using the neuroscience of how we learn in course design. I hold a BS, MA, MSEL and JD, all which indicate my love for learning. My passion lies in creating accessible and engaging learning experiences while utilizing the latest technology and pedagogical research – specializing in working with faculty in Open Educational Resources (OER) and effective course design of courses to meet the needs of the neurodivergent.
