Praxis Requirements
PRAXIS I: Admission requirement to the Department of Early and Elementary Education Professional Teacher Education Program (PTEP) require teacher candidates to satisfy the basic skills requirement in one of the following two ways: (1) Have an SU overall GPA of 3.0 or above; (2) Have an SU overall GPA of 2.5 or above and passing scores on the Praxis Core test or another basic skills assessment approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). MSDE determines passing scores on these exams.
MSDE requires all teacher candidates without a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of graduation to take and pass a basic skills test (SAT, ACT, GRE, or Praxis Core) to be licensed to teach in Maryland.
PRAXIS II: Candidates must take Praxis II before graduation. We recommend that you complete subject area content knowledge tests when you have completed all of your non-education major requirements. Pedagogy tests should be completed near the end of your methods courses or early in your student teaching semester. The PRAXIS II specialty tests are required for the certification areas and graduation. Official score reports must be provided to the Teacher Education department office, TETC 278 prior to graduation.
REGISTRATION: Registration must be completed on the website. See the ETS website for more information.
